Welcome to Our Celebrant!

My name is Sumi and I’m an Independent Family and Wedding Celebrant. I trained with the UK College of Celebrancy and I’m a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants. I live in London with my husband with whom I share a love of walking, food and dancing (purely for joy!).

I’ve done quite a few courses over the years – anthropology, psychology, acting, storytelling, photography, creative writing – and it was a chance conversation with my neighbour one day that opened the doors to the world of celebrancy. Being a celebrant has enabled me to gather my skills to write and conduct ceremonies that are unique, personal and vibrant.

I love to cook (and eat!) and spend most of my down time in the kitchen. New recipes often mean that ‘guinea pig’ invitations are sent out to friends – all still alive and kicking, and accepting my invitations! My favourite food is home cooking (a fusion of Indian and West Indian), while my husband cooks mainly English fare (his cottage pie is totally scrummy).

I’m fascinated by the power of storytelling and this article really captures the essence of why I love to hear stories:
