FAQ

What is a celebrant?

Simply put, a celebrant writes and conducts ceremonies.

Most ceremonies celebrate transformations or rites of passage. They’re a way of honouring the transition from one chapter of our lives to another and should reflect our personalities and experiences. As your celebrant, I use your story as a foundation and together we build your ceremony from the ground up.

Why choose a celebrant?

A celebrant ceremony offers you possibilities.

Your ceremony can take place anywhere and at any time, and you’re not limited to approved venues so you can choose to have your ceremony in a place that holds a special significance for you.

Your ceremony is written by me, with input from you and based around your story. So, each ceremony is a co-creation and totally unique.

Where can I have my wedding or celebration?

Whether your celebration is a wedding, a naming or a vow renewal you can choose a venue or location that is meaningful to you. There are no restrictions around finding approved premises for wedding venues. All you have to do is make sure you have the right permissions from the land owners or appropriate authorities.

Are your ceremonies religious?

I write ceremonies centred around you. If it’s important to you to have religious elements included in your ceremony then we will work together to do this.

Equally, if your passions lie elsewhere – maybe in natural history, philosophy or even Comic Con – we will work together to ensure these elements are included in your ceremony.

Where are you based?

I am based in London but I travel to venues throughout the UK and beyond.

How much does it cost and what’s included?

For weddings, civil partnerships and conversions I charge £495, vow renewals are £350 and naming ceremonies are £300. These charges are for ceremonies taking place within London and the M25.

I write the ceremony and you can have as many redrafts as you need, until you are completely happy with the end product. I can help couples write their vows and assist family and friends with their readings, if required. I will be available for a rehearsal at the venue and liaise with other suppliers to make sure the ceremony is choreographed correctly. I will conduct the ceremony on the day.

Please contact me to discuss costs related to different types of celebrations.

What isn’t included?

Travel expenses outside London/M25 and accommodation, if needed.

The hire of a PA system if it’s necessary. If you plan to have more than 70 guests, I would recommend a PA system.

What’s the process?

We’ll need to meet – preferably face to face or over Skype if that’s not possible. It gives us a chance to talk about your vision and discuss any ideas you have.

Once we’ve met and you decide you’d like me to be your celebrant, I will ask you to sign a contract and pay a £200 deposit. I’ll ask you some questions to help me understand you and find out what you want from your ceremony. I will then start writing your ceremony and I’ll send you drafts which can be amended until you’re happy.

Are your wedding ceremonies legally binding?

The legal part of a wedding must take place at the Register Office. It will take about 20 minutes, you’ll need 2 witnesses and there is no need to exchange rings at this time. Some couples register their marriage a day or so before the celebrant ceremony, others do it well in advance.

If you are converting your civil partnership you will need to attend the Register Office to sign a legal declaration and conversion document. This is a simple administrative process.

Do you do other kinds of celebrations?

Absolutely! There are all kinds of celebrations and rites of passage – landmark birthdays, graduations, commitments, special beginnings or even endings.

If you think you’d like your celebration to be led by a celebrant do please get in touch and let’s talk.
