Handfasting is an ancient tradition, symbolising the binding of two lives, two families into one..
Historically, it was a form of betrothal or even a temporary marriage in mediaeval England and Scotland. The term comes from the act of joining hands, often with ribbons or cords, to signify the commitment of one to another with love..
This beautiful Ceremony can be for those moving from the single life to a couple, or for the
blending of existing families into one.
Passing the rings on a cushion, or threaded on a cord, to be held and blessed by all present, allowing positive energy and love to be gifted to the newly-wedded couple.
Placing personal items, messages and secret gifts into a Memory Box is a wonderful way to commit to each other.
And if blending families, they can all be involved as well, storing memories in a container to be opened in a few months' or years' time.
You could even include a bottle of wine or other drink to help you celebrate your time together and remember your special day. with those you love.
This is ideal for including children in celebrating the union, not only of the couple, but of two families.
It is a unity ritual - each person takes sand in a small container, and pours it into a shared larger one. The blending of the differently coloured sands represents the joining of two (or more) individuals into one family.
